Why this course?

This course is essential to those who are working in sales, design and consulting services of diesel generators. The diesel engine is the main part of the diesel generator. To understand how the diesel generator set operates and generates electrical power it is essential to study and understand the basic structure of the engine and to know how the engine rating is specified and what are the different classifications of the diesel engine. This course is the first of series of courses on the diesel engine covering the engine itself, fuel system, cooling system, lube oil system, air and exhaust system and electric starting system.

At the completion of this course the student should be able to:

• Explain the diesel engine ratings, and electrical and mechanical powers

• List different engine classifications

• Explain the importance of fuel consumption data

• Explain the different specs of fuels used for diesel engines

• List and explain the different components of the diesel engine and their functions

• Explain engine stroke, bore, displacement and compression ratio 

• Explain different types of diesel engine governors

• Explain the PID speed control

• Explain the diesel engine electronic control functions and system structure

• List the engine pre-start and operational checks

Course Contents

The course material is divided into 8 lessons, followed by a quiz exam. The student should study all lessons and then answer the quiz questions to pass this course. The student should score at least 60% to pass this course and get the certificate. The course has a weight of 2 PDH.
